Isn’t it interesting how most people are very careful about the water they drink but don’t really think about the air they breathe or if they do, they don't always know simple ways to help their Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)... so here comes the medication for allergies. Drinking clean water and breathing clean air seem like two top priorities to living a healthy lifestyle.
The air in our homes can be many times worse than the outside air, especially during the winter months. It is estimated that 90% of a person’s time is spent indoors so IAQ is a very important topic these days. The EPA has put poor IAQ as one of the top 5 environmental dangers. And the top two causes of indoor air pollution are: second- hand smoke and radon. Some other contaminants are bacteria, mold, viruses, pet dander, dust mites, and pollen.
Here are some health issues that can occur due to poor IAQ (cumulative effects can happen through time)
-Irritation of eyes, nose, throat, lungs (allergies)
-Lung and Heart disease
One way to create better IAQ is to not use products that contain harmful contaminants, have good ventilation, and keep the home as clean and dust free as possible. Get rid of carpets, keep bedding clean, dust and vacuum (with a vacuum cleaner that has HEPA filtration) on a regular basis, smoke outdoors, control humidity, use Green products etc. There are also monitors to check Radon and CO2 levels in your home.
Another easy way to improve the IAQ in our homes is to use the Green/Orange Screens, and to change them out on a regular basis, (check them out at greenscreenairfilter.com).
We also recommend getting on a schedule so you remember to change your filters on time- and we do offer Auto-Ship. This really helps those who forget to change them when needed.
Quality of life is so important so let’s start making IAQ just as important as what water we drink. If we do both we are much more likely to stay healthy and enjoy life.
