Jack Frost Strikes Again!

Jack Frost Strikes Again!

Posted by Superior Air Quality on Jan 15th 2024

As the nights start drawing in, chances are it's more than just your body clock that's being thrown off-kilter.Tight skin, rough knuckles, chapped lips? Say hello to winter, about to wreak havoc from head-to-toe.

A complete overhaul of all products due to a change in seasons is not necessarily needed. Stay aware of how your skin adapts and responds to different environments and products and make any simple changes that keep your skin at its best.

Just because it is winter, it doesn’t mean you should put away your sunscreen! While there is less UVB around in winter, levels of UVA there are still significant enough to age skin. Did you know that lips are vulnerable to sunburn? Make sure your lips are sealed with an effective ointment at all times! Using a sunscreen that specifically has a high UVA rating all year round to protect your skin can really help prevent sun damage!

Your skin will become drier and often more sensitive with the onset of colder weather and central heating. Make sure you keep hydrated during the day. Drink your water! Swap your coffee for green tea which has great antioxidant effects. And be gentle cleaning your skin as you need your skin barrier to be as healthy as possible so that it can retain vital moisture. As a rule of thumb, if your skin feels tight after washing it is likely that the cleanser you are using has disrupted your skin barrier. Skin should feel calm and hydrated after washing. It may help to use a more occlusive, rich product, especially for the evening routine, which can help maintain the skin barrier.

Treat yourself to a facial to help. Regular facials may help to keep your skin clean, clear and hydrated while maximizing your everyday skincare regime, too.

Pay attention to your hands and lips! Licking sore lips will only exacerbate dryness so using a good ointment on them all the time will not only keep them from sunburn but help keep them moisturized as well. Hands are very high risk for becoming chapped and sore in winter; using a moisturizing soap substitute that is mildly antibacterial during the day for cleansing and a rich layer of hand cream under cotton gloves at night can really help.

It is important to know that poor indoor air quality may cause havoc on your skin as well!  It may lead to dehydration, disruption of the skin microbiome, skin barrier damage, and premature aging. Often, it may cause the worsening of existing skin conditions such as acne, contact dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. Like you don’t have enough to deal with in the winter, right?  But we can help! Don't let Jack Frost's chilly antics ruin your complexion! ❄️✨ With our custom air filters, you can keep your indoor air clean and skin moisturized even during the harshest winter months.
